Awards: Finalist in 1997 National Playwrights Conference competition held by Eugene O'Neill Theater.

Plot: What if you were given the legal right to kill one person of your choosing?.... For one woman living in the very near future, the time to choose is now. That woman is Karen Reese, whose husband and daughter were killed because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time during a juvenile gang shooting. The assailant has been released because of extenuating circumstances, and society's offering to Karen is a permit allowing for what is called "lethal compensation" -- a license to kill without fear of legal consequences. The emotional consequences, however, take their toll as family, friends and the government all prod Karen to use this special privilege for their own purposes.

Casting Requirements: 3 Female, 3 Male

Production History: Presented as a staged reading at The Old Pueblo Playwrights (Tucson, Ariz.) 1995 New Play Festival.
